Out-of-School Youth Programs
Youth Employment Services Program:This program is operated out of the Workforce New York Career Center. It provides career planning services and 12 hours per week of pre-vocational education. The program prepares students for college, which can also include preparation for the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC™) (this is the new test which replaces the GED exam.) Internship experiences and job placement are also arranged for those who are unemployed. Enrollment is ongoing. The class meets Tuesday through Thursday from 3:30pm—7:30pm. Call 828-4181 ext 5510.
Catskill TASC Program: This is an Alternative High School Equivalency Preparation Program that is approved by the State Education Department designed to assist students to pass the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC™) (this is the new test which replaces the GED exam.) The class meets 15 hours a week, Monday through Thursday from 4-8. It incorporates computer, individual and group instruction. The class assists youth in obtaining work readiness skills. Paid internship experiences and job placement can be arranged. Priority is given to Catskill School district residents. Enrollment is ongoing.
In-School Youth Programs
The Columbia-Greene Partnership Academy (“The Bridge’) provides assistance to youth still attending secondary school. In school youth programs are operated in conjunction with local school districts, and can provide career exploration activities, academic tutoring and paid employment experiences.
Summer Youth Employment Program: When funding is available, this program provides summer jobs and career exploration for youth between the ages of 15 and 20 who are still in high school. Minimum wage postions are arranged with public and private employers throughout the two counties.
